ASTM D6641 Four Columns

Used with a pair of compression platens (not included), the fixture is engineered according to ASTM D6641/d6641M for tests to understand the compressive properties of polymer matrix composite materials through simultaneously applying end and shear loading on the specimen. Thanks to the clamping blocks that prevent buckling and end, the fixtures can be used to test both tabbed and untabbed specimens.

Overview

Used with a pair of compression platens (not included), the fixture is engineered according to ASTM D6641/d6641M for tests to understand the compressive properties of polymer matrix composite materials through simultaneously applying end and shear loading on the specimen. Thanks to the clamping blocks that prevent buckling and end, the fixtures can be used to test both tabbed and untabbed specimens.

Design Features and Benefits

Surfaces that interact with the specimen are specially hardened with tungsten carbide to provide additional friction to apply shearing force without scratching the specimen surface.
Guiding rods ensure alignment between the upper and bottom clamping blocks. Embedded bearings in the blocks enable smooth movement with minimum friction during tests.
To minimize operator errors, centering devices for specimen widths of 12.7, 13, and 25mm are provided to ensure consistent proper specimen positions vertically and horizontally.
If using video extensometer for strain measurement, a 4-guiding-rod design is available to allow unblocked view at the stress region.
